Back to School Collaborative Mural 2017
Today is the end of the 3rd week of school! Dude, dude, I miss summer!
We started exploring artist Libs Elliot . I showed the students some examples of his work and then we briefly talked about how he managed to create a sense of both unity and diversity in his work. After looking at some of his work, we came across a slide that had typos made by his students, and then I explained what we were going to do!
For the color change I used the following plot:
Rotation 1 - scarlet, lilac, white
Rotation 2 - Red, Scarlet, Orange (some), White
Rotation 3 - Orange, Gold, Red (some), White
Rotation 4 - Gold, Yellow, Light Yellow, Orange (some), White
Rotation 5 - bright warm blade, holiday green (some), white
Rotation 6 - hot lime, festive green, turquoise, white
Rotation 7-Turquoise, Royal Blue, Sky Blue, White
Rotation 8 - Royal Blue, Purple, Lilac, White
For this project (and all my other projects in general) we used Tru-Ray sulfite construction paper. . If you haven't used it before, you won't live! Your paper will be bright in color and won't fade (meaning this screen will be a little light)!
Waking up at 5:15 am every morning is not my thing.
This year my school has divided our students into 8 academic (special) classes during the first 8 days of school (usually we see them for a few days). This was done so our students could meet all the teachers when they opened... and see all of our classes.
I went there a month and a half last year before I saw any of my rotations so welcome to change!
So in the first 8 days of school, I walked in, learned my class rules, learned some procedures, and assigned spots to 48 different classes!
After all that boring beginning stuff, 2-5. I've also worked with students on a collaborative mural project. This lesson comes from Don Shine Bright Zamorano !
Students were tasked with creating a square piece of construction paper to add to a back-to-school collaborative photo project inspired by the work of Libs Elliot.
Triangles (cut into 6" x 6" squares) and 3" x 3" squares in different colors (colors change with each round). The students were told that they needed a large square, a large triangle, and two small squares (which could be cut into smaller triangles); So the rest was in their hands! For the color change I used the following plot:
Rotation 1 - scarlet, lilac, white
Rotation 2 - Red, Scarlet, Orange (some), White
Rotation 3 - Orange, Gold, Red (some), White
Rotation 4 - Gold, Yellow, Light Yellow, Orange (some), White
Rotation 5 - bright warm blade, holiday green (some), white
Rotation 6 - hot lime, festive green, turquoise, white
Rotation 7-Turquoise, Royal Blue, Sky Blue, White
Rotation 8 - Royal Blue, Purple, Lilac, White
I have to be honest - the prep work was INTENSIVE... but the results are EXCITING!
To hang them up, I glued the blocks to sandpaper and then used packing tape and strips . for wall mounting. Order lists were needed to maintain this position!!
